Seraj Pramanik, Kushtia: National Legal Aid Day 2018 observed in Kushtia on Saturday with the slogan “Unnon are Ainer Sasone Agia Cholse Desh, Legal Aider sofool Passe Sara Bangladesh”Kushtia District Legal Aid Committee (DLAC) organized the function with various programmes.

Marking the day, a colourful procession was brought out in front the Kushtia District and Session Judge building around 11 am where various judges, magistrates, lawyers, judicial employers, public representatives, professionals, civil society members, journalists and elite attended. The procession paraded the main roads of the Kushtia court area and ended at the same place.

Later, a discussion ceremony was held at the Kushtia district lawyer association conference room. Zohir Raihan, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrul Islam, Special Judge Touhidul Islam, Additional district judge, Serajul Islam, president Kushtia bar Association, Nurul Islam Dulal, Secretary Kushtia bar Association, Aktaruzzaman Masum, Government pleader were present among others. Arup Goswami, Chairman District Legal Aid Committee and District and session Judge presided over the discussion ceremony.

Speakers at a discussion have called for making the government’s legal aid services programme successful through reaching the cost-free legal services to the extremely poor and distressed people.

The speakers stressed for mass publicity on the process of providing legal aid to the poorer section and distressed people for ensuring justice for them through appointing panel lawyers on behalf of them free of cost under government assistance.
